Two Bikes Development Director
Two Bikes is seeking a full-time Development Director to assume full responsibility for the implementation of the annual and multiyear development plan for the Two Bikes Knoxville location.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, a passion for youth workforce development, and a passion for bicycling as a tool for social change. The candidate must be able to manage simultaneous projects and be able to foster coordination within the organization to meet development goals. Experience and skill in nonprofit development are essential to succeed in this position, but technical knowledge of bicycles is not required.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen experience in nonprofit development, build a strong network in the Knoxville community, and work for an organization making meaningful changes to improve Knoxville. Two Bikes is a nonprofit bike shop and community center located in the Historic Old City of Knoxville, Tennessee. Two Bikes strives to expand access to the personal, social, and environmental benefits of riding a bike. Knoxville has a rich history of bicycling that has gained a national spotlight in recent years, and Two Bikes was established to ensure that all citizens of Knoxville have access to the amazing cycling opportunities in the area.
Job Responsibilities
Grant Management (25%)
Develop, execute, and maintain all existing and new grants.
Seek out and apply for new grants that are well aligned with the mission and programs of Two Bikes.
Individual Donor Relations (25%)
Maintain donor information in the Two Bikes CRM system using www.Kindful.com
Seek out new individual donors to support Two Bikes programming
Compose a monthly newsletter for donors that explain the progress of the organization and how we’ve been using their contribution
Compose and mail all letters of recognition to fiscal and in-kind donors
Annual Fundraising Events (25%)
Develop and execute the First Bike Dinner, a 300-person fundraising dinner each fall in collaboration with the Executive Director
Direct the vision and implementation of growth for the annual fundraiser
Secure in-kind donations for a silent auction for the annual event
Host 6 private donor dinners in partnership with the Executive Director
Corporate Sponsorships (10%)
Maintain relations and communication with existing corporate donors.
Develop relations with and secure funding from new corporate donors.
Development Planning (5%)
At the beginning of each year, the Development Director is responsible for building the annual development plan alongside the Executive Director
Direct the vision and implementation of growth within the organization’s fundraising efforts
Organizational Planning: (5%)
Participates in staff, team, program, and board meeting
Participates in annual planning efforts, including strategic and operational planning and budgeting
Seeks out and participates in professional development and training opportunities
Job Qualifications:
At least 3 years of professional experience in the nonprofit development field.
Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to demonstrate a history of excellence and measurable growth in nonprofit development
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to speak in front of large crowds and in small groups.
Strong project management skills including the management of complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable success and development growth
Fluency in writing budgets in excel
Passion for the mission, vision, and values of Two Bikes
Commitment to environmental stewardship, social justice, and equitable transportation
Strong self-motivation including the ability to work independently
Job Preferences:
Five or more years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization is preferred
No degree is required for the position, but an education in nonprofit work is favorable.
A passion for bicycling is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
Job Compensation:
$50,000 - $58,000 depending on experience. This position is not eligible for overtime pay, but does include a metric-based bonus scheduled on top of the annual salary. All full-time positions at Two Bikes include the following benefits:
